Problems when Ripping CDs to .mp3

I've started ripping a lot of my CDs to .mp3 format, but keep running into a
problem when doing so. I'm currently using Windows XP & Windows Media Player
11.

When I insert a CD, the ripping process begins as it should. A folder is
created with the Artist name, Album name, Song titles, etc. Somewhere along
the way, though, the Media Player and/or OS begins to "redo" things and
creates a folder titled "Unknown Artist" along with a bunch of subfolders
titled "Unknown Album (5-29-2010 1-46-31 PM). The subfolders all contain
certain tracks from the CDs I've ripped...seemingly randomized. When I try
to reorganize, it's almost as if my system realizes what I'm trying to do and
just "reshuffles" itself again.

I'm at a loss; I can't figure out what's screwing all of this up. Hopefully
someone here is more experienced than I thought I was...lol

Go to WMP's Options - Library, and uncheck "Rearrange music in rip music
folder, using rip music settings". Does that help?

Yes an no.

I pretty much get the same result; the ripping process begins normally, but
before it completes only a certain number of tracks are saved to the folder
created with the Artists' name and Album title; the rest are dumped into a
"Unknown Album" subfolder of the aforementioned "Unknown Artist" folder.
Furthermore, when I (pointlessly) try to arrange the files by Artist, my
files will suddenly "disappear" and be rearranged in newly-titled "Unknown
Album" subfolders - all marked with the current date and time. I'm ripping
all of these songs to an external hard drive, but I can't imagine that's at
the root of this; I was having the same problem when I was just trying to
save these files to the "My Music" folder on my C: drive.

Does this happen with all the CDs that you're ripping?

It's possible that a corrupted library causes this. To reset the
library, follow the instructions for WMP 11 on XP at
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
Note that resetting the library will make you lose all current play
counts, and possibly ratings too.
