Problems With Sleep Scrambling Desktop Icons

I have a new Lenovo Thinkpad X60, running Vista. Every single time
that I put the computer into sleep mode, when it wakes up (thank god
it does that!), all the desktop icons are scrambled and I have to
re-set them manually.

My "fix" is simply to never put my laptop into sleep mode, which is
moronic of course. (Is this Microsoft's idea of an improvment?) So I
wondered if there are any workarounds, other than that particular one.

Grrrrrrr.
