************************************************** **********************

Im NOT interested in Loading SP2 yet...
because of problems identified with my firewall (Zone-Alarm) and some
other programs according to microsofts documentation.

Meanwhile...
WINDOWS UPDATE is AUTOMATICALLY loading and Im having PROBLEMS
STOPPING
IT. <:-[

Specifically...
Wuauclt.exe initiates and then another instance of Wuauclt.exe loads,
and
then they go away for a little while, and then they come back. I try
to stop them by deleting them in task manager but to no avail. They
eventually come back.

NOTES...
I set AUTOMATIC UPDATE MANAGER --> to NOTIFY ME before updating.

I have always downloaded my updates MANUALLY previously with no
problems.

Before I started having these problems I did make some CHANGES TO my
STARTUP FILES in both MSCONFIG and HIJACKTHIS logfile. I checked and
deleted items that were not related to Windows Update in any way that
I
know of.

I HAVE INCLUDED...
* HijackThis LOGFILE
* WindowsUpdate LOGFILE

Hello Teknowbabble,

I cannot really respond to everything you have below, but from your comment that wuauclt.exe launches intermittently and looking at the fragment from the Windows Update log file I can tell you that the one instance that launches is simply to host the datastore manager out of process (not inside the Windows Update service).

The other instance of wuauclt.exe is trying to show you the opt-in dialog (look for the Windows Update icon in the icon tray). The dialog that comes up when you click it asks you to turn on Automatic Updates ... clicking "More Options" you can then choose to be notified, either before download or before install.

Hope this helps,
Rhynier
