Problems with streaming Media

A problem I am seeing on most Vista machines, and hearing from many users,
is that streaming internet media is very spotty under Vista with many
temporary hiccoughs while the source is reacquired/rebuffered. XP machines
on the same networks NEVER have this problem with the same internet media
sources. This in addition to program, driver and performance issues: why I
am still trying to get Vista to work? Shouldn't Microsoft have done that?
