Problems synchronizing: Audiovox SMT 5600

I am having problem synchronizing between my new Audiovox SMT 5600 phone and
my Outlook 2000 calendar. I use Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. It
seems that I successfully installed the software on my new Dell. In fact, I
have just reinstalled it. It progresses thusly:

The connection is made, and the "Looking for changes" message appears.
The progress bar hangs at about 1/3 completed as the green connection ball
rolls.
Eventually I am asked what I want to do, and I select the "combine items"
option.
After a considerable period, a message tells me that 53 items were not
synchronized.
An error message eventually appears: " Synchronization cannot be completed
successfully. Disconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists,
see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter on Microsoft ActiveSync Help on
your desktop computer."

The troubleshooter was no help, but it may point to my problem. It tells how
to use either outstore.log or wcesmgr.log to learn what file might be
corrupted. It explains how to search for the files on one's system. I
searched my hard drive, and neither file appeared. Were these files supposed
to be added during installation of ActiveSync?

Any comments would be most appreciated.

(BTW I had no problem with ActiveSync with a previous computer, also a Dell,
and previous telephone, a Motorola MPx 220. That's what makes the present
situation so vexing. "Upgrade and all problems will vanish," we are often
told. Yeah, right)

Hi,
Do you have a firewall installed? Was any other application running on the
PC that can be closed? Did you try and unplug all other USB devices? Are
there any add-ons for Outlook installed? All of these things can affect
synchronization.
