Looks like serious trouble today at the windowsupdate site. In addition to
all the problems reported here, my machine crashed in the middle of an SP2
install. Subsequent attempts to reach the site failed and now the site has a
suspicious page up asking me to put *.windowsupdate.com into my Trusted
sites. Sounds Phishy to me. Did MSFT get hacked today?

No, it sounds like YOU did.

This is a link to a small FREE program by McAfee Anti-virus named Stinger.
It will scan your system for 53 known viruses and trojans and repair them.
You don't need McAfee anti-virus installed on your computer... this is a
stand alone program. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ or

NOTE: Disable System Restore BEFORE you run Stinger:

It's possible but it would be pretty odd. I did a complete network tear
down today and nuked all machines on the net. First one I brought back up
was deep formatted, reinstalled with fresh XP Pro, patched fully (via
windowsupdate), had Microsoft antispyware installed, and using only Trusted
sites visiting two other web sites. Same routine for the 2nd machine. When I
got to the third machine, it crashed during the SP2 install and subsequent
visits to windowsupdate produced a standard server not found page, followed
by the suspicious redirect page that is now also visible on this (the first)
machine.

Can someone please verify that windowsupdate is up and operating normal for
them, so that I can verify that it's my problem?

Thanks.

Never mind, I've had others do that. Ok, I can't believe I was naive enough
to believe that it was MSFT, not me, that got hacked. My system is so clean
and I'm so careful. Damn, these bastards have not only phished me, but
pharmed me and hacked my DNS. Every machine on our network goes to this
bogus page now when windowsupdate is typed in or chosen from the IE menu.

It's getting very, very ugly. Looking forward to authenticated email once
those standards guys get around to agreeing on things.

And oh, btw, MSFT ... wtg on MARID and SenderID.
