Several times I had tried to install unsuccesful the critical Office
received an error code (Ox777) for an automatic update of Windows XP Service
PAck 2

The emails in reference to problems with the installation of this packege
did not refer to this errror code.

What do I have to change to install sucessful the new critical update ?

Thanks

Doris

What happens if you download the full file installation of said patch and
have your Office CD in the CD drive when you run it?

I tried to install the Service Pack to Windows XP on my HP Presario. After
Step 1, my computer tried to shut down but went up/down again and again. I
finally had to do computer recovery. What a mess.

I uninstalled XP and went back to Windows. When Windows wanted to install
the service pack, I tried that. Same problem. My computer will shut down,
come up, then shut down, come up--an endless cycle. Only computer recovery
works.

After reinstalling Windows, and doing all the other "fixing," I just don't
"do" service packs. Any suggestions?

A very well known problem which can be solved by using your favorite search
engine.
http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Desktops-an...-SP3-Problems/

"Customers can visit www.hp.com and enter the patch name SP37394 in the
search box to download the fix. When the update is available, the search
results screen will list the update with instructions for downloading and
installation."

Ignore that and instead download the full SP3 installation file and/or burn
the ISO download to CD.

Continual reboots or can only boot into Safe Mode after installing WinXP
SP3?

See
http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesp...ng-xp-sp3.aspx
[NB: The above has been updated many times and now includes "a small tool
that will detect the IntelPPM problem and mitigate it before installing
(WinXP SP3)."]

Possible workaround: Boot into Safe Mode and rename INTELPMM.SYS to
INTELPMM.OLD.

Other references include:

• Error message after you upgrade a computer that uses a processor other
than an Intel processor to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or to Windows XP
Service Pack 3: "STOP: 0x0000007E":

0x0000007E [after installing WinXP SP3]

LOOK!! => Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available
for Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3) and *only until* 14
Apr-09. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 |
select "Windows XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
