Generally speaking this error message shows up if the Windows Live Communications Platform
isn't installed. You can check this by simply downloading and running this Microsoft
Installer file with the latest Comm Platform:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/red...e/contacts.asp
After this is installed, shut down Messenger, restart it and try to sign in again.
If you're still having problems. You can uninstall Windows Live Messenger 2009 by heading
over to the Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs/Programs and Features applet, choose
Windows Live Essentials and proceed through the uninstallation there. Then you can install
8.5 by downloading and running this MSI:
