I'm guessing here, but it sounds like it could be a corrupt install file.
Can you try re-downloading the itunes installer file?
Also if, as you say this issue also is affecting installing MS Office, maybe
the CD's need a clean - or even the CD player laser/lens (use a CD cleaner
disk).

Also try logging into an Administrator account and try the install from
there. Otherwise, right click the exe file and "Run As Administrator" from
the standard account.
