I've the same problem too. And even when I try to use the so called "new
window", it hangs halfway... It only happened after I reformatted my comp and
updated windows. I didn't have this prob before I reformatted my comp.

I also have the recursive Microsoft Update behavior... XP SP2, reasonably up
to date.

I'm also having the same problem...someone told me to try to re-register
urlmon.dll (Start>Run>"regsvr32 urlmon.dll") but that didn't work for me...it
may work for others.

I sent a support ticket to MS, I'll share any solutions they may provide

Tks Efrainman.

Additional notes - Express works, Custom does not (it gets the count for
Optional and Hardware, (maybe) but recurses with either). Custom showed 0
High Priority available.
Testing regsvr - no joy.

Hey, Express *does* work. Funny that...however:

I noticed that when I click Custom, I have 0 high priority and 2 optional
software, but after I tried Express, it showed 7 or 8 High priority which
were not installed. The heck? It's like custom is stuck or something. I tried
deleting all my temp internet files but that didn't work...

Naw, it works on every other PC I have. I have a Vista Ultimate 32-bit,
Vista Home P. 64-bit, an XP 64-bit, an XP Home SP2 and an XP Pro SP2, as well
as several Win2000 machines I administer at work, and *only* the XP Pro SP2
doesn't work. It's different from the others in this way: It was an XP Pro
SP1 which was upgraded to SP2. I'm wondering if something in the SP2 upgrade
killed it. AND all of these OS's were installed in the last 2 weeks (the 2
Vistas and 3 XP's) so they're all fresh.

Fsck I have a lot of OS's... o_O
