First thing I would do is run a scan on your computer with Antivirus and
AntiSpyware software in Safe Mode, make sure all device drivers are updated,
your Windows Firewall is turned on.

To hide files as best as possible, setup an additional account that other
persons can use or turn on the built in Guest account in Windows Vista
located under Control Panel > User Accounts.

If you have the wrong date and year every time you reboot, the trickle-feed
coin size battery in the motherboard is flat.
Or the date and year is set wrong in BIOS.

If it's brand new, take it back and get the vendor to fix problems 1 and 2.

Password protecting files is not possible, since such option is not built
into the OS. The best you can do now, is to keep your files in separate
accounts and keep them password protected and keep the files within your own
user folder.
