problems with windows xp sp2 home updates

Hi everyone. I noticed this problem today for the first time. I have
automatic updates turned on, so I don't notice when windows updates are
installed. Today I happened to be at the computer when updates were being
installed, and they were unsuccessful. I tried it manually through the
windows update site, and it too was unsuccessful. I looked at my
installation history, and every update since June 28, 2005 has been
unsuccessful. I get the following error code when checking on the
installations that failed:

error code: 0x80246008
