this action" and when i click on try again, it still doesn't work. whem i'm
trying just to open a clip or word document (from a web page) or anything

Hi,

Are you using Symantec/Norton's software for system protection? If so,
disable it entirely and retry the operations.

So, are you saying that all of a sudden wherever this destination folder is
at, it started denying you access? Or is it that you have never had access
to the directory?

What do you mean it doesn't work? What is it doing? You got MS Word on the
installed on the machine? And what's wrong with opening a clip? What clip
are you talking about?

Go Start/Control Panel/Users and find Turn User Account Control Off.

Disabling UAC is a) a foolish idea, b) not going to correct a permissions
issue, and c) not going to correct an issue caused by third party protection
software.

Thanks. This did correct the problem. But, is it really a foolish idea? Will
this action hurt, in any way, my computer?
Thanks again

Hi.
Why is it a foolish idea? I did it and it did correct the problem? Do you
have any idea how to fix the problem other way?
Thanks

I did but when it expired I erased it and installed Mcafee (I had to erase it
cause it didn't allow me to install the program other wise). Come to think
about it, this problem might have started when I erased Norton and installed
Mcafee.
And if you don't mind I have another question:
Sometimes windown just stop responding, while I'm working with it, closes
and restarts. Why? And how can I stop it from happening again?
Thanks, again

For the average home user, I would suggest that you enable it again, becaue
you're no better off and you're wide open to attack. You need to figure out
how to work with UAC, if that's all your problems are about.

Disabling UAC as a permanent or corrective measure is a mistake. UAC is
part of Vista's security "network". The majority of Windows applications
are installed with Administrator's permissions (High level) in order to make
changes to the registry, system files and so forth - the problem is that it
provides a means for malware to "piggyback" and infect a computer and why
Microsoft certiifies "low level" application installations (necessasry
additions to system files are made first to "virtual" registry, etc.,
locations)..

In Standard User mode if you select to do an action that will modify those
settings, UAC requests either a "Continue" and/or "Administrator" token to
proceed. If in Administrator mode UAC asks only permission to continue.

In addition "Protected" mode in IE version 7 requires UAC to be active.
Disabling UAC means that about the only security against malware
installation will be provided via a spyware/malware utility.
