If you purchased a retail copy of Windows Vista, you should be able to
use the "Product ID" presented by right-clicking on Computer and
selecting properties.
If Vista was pre-installed on the computer by HP, then chances are that
part of your product ID are the letters "OEM", in which case HP is
responsible for any and all technical support.
