product recovery cd-rom

I just did a full recovery of my system using the recovery cd-rom that came
with the computer.
Instead of clearing all the information & what not, it gave me another
windows XP
that does'nt work, plus i still have all stuff i had before on the first
windows XP !
Do you think there is a problem with the recovery cd-rom ?

Possible but doubtful.
All manufacturers do recovery differently.
Check your manual and/or contact the manufacturer for proper
instructions on performing a destructive recovery.
Make sure you have backed up important data first.
