Curious. I wonder if it might be a problem with the message history for that particular
contact, assuming you have the message history engaged.
To check, click the Tools menu (or press Alt-T if the menu is hidden), then Options, then
Messages category. Take note of the location of the history (press Change to see exactly
where it exists if you need to see). Then go to that folder in Windows and the locate the
file corresponding to your contact. The file names will just be the first part of their
e-mail address followed by a number.
After you've located the file, right click it and choose Rename then add (old) to the end of
the name and hit enter. Finally try clicking on their contact again in Messenger to see what
happens.
Note this is just a guess and obviously if you don't have the history on and file isn't
there, this won't be the issue.
