I have programs running all the time on my computer and it is pretty slow.
There are about 25 programs running all the time. Is this normal? Can I stop
these progams from running except for when I need hem?

Hi Mary K,

25 programs or 25 processes? There is a difference. The former would not be
normal, the latter would be depending on system configuration and installed
software.

Well they are processes, I believe.

Hi Mary,

If you are looking at them in Task Manager in the Processes tab, then
25 is not bad at all. I have 39 processes runnning at all times
usually. You can look at the Startup Programs list from my eariler post
to see if you want to trim any of those programs you do not need.
