programs to instal with directx 8.1

After upgrading my pc, I can not reinstal a midi software " cakewalk-sonar
version 2.2xl. To instal this software, I need the directx version 8.1. But
after upgrading with SP2 the directx now is version 9.
How can I delete this directx 9 temporary, because I need this software.

According to MS DirectX website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx
DirectX cannot be uninstalled. MS recommends that WinME & WinXP users
turn on system restore before installing DirectX 9.

Cakewalk may have a workaround for this here:

been told that this works, but have no direct experience.)
