Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down
to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix".

I've not long bought a HPDV9000 series laptop. I've checked Microsoft for
updates for it and had SP3 recommended by the automatic update tool.

So I've tried to install it many times........all unsuccessful.

Every time I boot my laptop the first thing that comes up is a Windows
Installer prompt telling me to load a cd with "Microsoft Office With
Frontpage" into my cd-rom...........I do not have any such cd..........the
laptop came fully loaded without discs.

I've followed the link mentioned below but all it does is save something
into my temporay internet files called "Office1706".

I'm a total novice to XP so can this fix please be explained as if you were
telling a 5 year old so that i might, just might, be able to sort this really
annoying problem.

Thank you for any help in this matter.

Use the utility below that is described in the below KB. Only deselect the Front Page and after the Tool has done it's work then reboot. Check for the problem again and post back here with results

Thanks for the advice Peter. It looked like a good solution and I'm sure it
would have worked fine.

In the end however, I managed to borrow an Office XP disc from my dad which
solved the problem and allowed SP3 to install successfully.

Regards.

Ryan

Hi there,
The update is searching for a valid office produkt

Put your office cd in the cdrom drive and browse for the PROPLUS.MSI when
asked during install: problem solved If not download the full update
which does noet require the office cd for installation

Best regards,
Michel Denie
