Is there a way for IE browsers do name lookup for IP address filters in proxy
server exemption settings?
Firefox's "No proxy" settings have no problem with this and has worked to
our advantage.
e.g.
IE Browsers:
---------------
Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with:
[*.domain.edu]
IE will bypass proxy server if URL contians campus.edu domain for intranet
use. But we have some campus.edu sites that are registered to thirdy party
web hosting sites. With the firewall in place, the URL requests to third
party sites containing campus.edu domain name get drop without the aid of
proxy servers.
So we tried using IP address range.
Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with:
[172.17.*]
If URL contains 172.17.*.* IP address, it will bypass the proxy servers. If
URL contains *.campus.edu domain name, it gets serviced by proxy server,
eventhough, the web servers are registered to 172.17.*.* addresses!
Firefox Browsers:
--------------------
No Proxy for: [172.17/16] or [172.17.]
All URL requests to *.campus.edu web sites that are registered to 172.17.*.*
bypass the proxy server. Other sites such as third party web hostings that
are not registerd to 172.17.*.* get serviced by proxy server.
Any clue to get IE to do this or should we tell our 25,000 students,
faculties, and staff to use the Firefox? Toggling between proxy settings in
not an answer.
