Pushing out software via Group Policy

What happens if you want to push out a new software install but a few
of the computers already have it installed or if some have an older
version and this would be an upgrade?

It would be an upgrade by the sounds of it - but then your question is posed
in 'updates' - not upgrades.
But then with the lack of any detail in your question I fear most will
ignore your request.
