I recently installed Microsoft Update in my XP Sp2 system. My understanding
is -- it would install its icon in the Start Menu. It didn't. Is there are
way to have the icon appear in the Start Menu.

Right-clicking on Start>Properties>Start Menu tab>Customize>Advanced tab
does not show how to include Microsoft Update in the Start Menu items.

Start> Properties> Start Menu tab> Customize > Add
and type in: wupdmgr.exe
Then, Next > Start Menu

Leongee,

Can you access Microsoft Update ? Was the system rebooted after the
install of the MU files ?
Try registering these files by going to Start, Run, and typing in

regsvr32 muweb.dll
Click OK ( note the space between the 2 and the m )

regsvr32 mucltui.dll
Click OK

The link on the Start Menu should contain this Path as it's Target
( Right click it if it's listed, then choose Properties to view the
Target ) :

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\muweb.dll,LaunchMUSite

If after you've registered the .dll files successfully the link still
does not appear you can create a link by :
1) Right clicking the Start Menu button
2) Choose Properties
3) Click the Customize button
4) Click the Add button
5) Copy & Paste the above Path into the "Type the location of the item"
window
6) Click the Next button
7) For " Select a floder to place the shortcut in ", click on the Start
Menu folder
8) For " Type a name for this shortcut: " type in Microsoft Update.
9) Click Finish

If muweb.dll does not exist on the system then registering it will fail
and the above shortcut will be invalid.

Thanks. I did as you instructed, and everything work fine up #4. It appears
"Add" only appears if in Classic Start Menu mode, not in the XP mode. In the
Classic mode, I added its path, but MU does not appear in the Start Menu in
Start Menu XP mode.

Should it be in the Clasice Start Menu mode to order to Add. In the XP mode
there is no "Add."

I can confirm that MU will *not* appear on the Start Menu in
XP mode. Only suggested workaround is to use the Classic Menu.

OK, after playing around with XP Mode, MU *should* be listed if you
point the cursor to Start, All Programs ...
Is it listed on your system ?
