putting vista on vpc

I have put virtual PC 2007 on my pc
I am having trouble downloading vista onto the VPC
Does it mean that I cannot download the reinstallation DVD of vista that
came with my laptop and that I need a new licensed vista?

I really want to know is if I can not use the vista that came with the
laptop.
