Unfortunately your question could mean a lot of things, depending on what you mean and what
version you're talking about.
Assuming you mean the new groups in 2009, just right-click on a group and choose 'Invite
people to group...' Then in the window that appears, click the 'Select from your contact
list link' above the main e-mail entry field. Note that it doesn't really look like a link
at first glance, but it is. You can then go ahead and add your Messenger contacts.
In versions of Messenger prior to 2009, groups are just different headings in the client.
You can just open up the main Messenger contact list window and drag/drop contacts to the
groups you wish. Alternatively, you can right-click on them and use the Copy or Move to
group options. In 2009, this same functionality is called "categories" and operates exactly
the same. You can also modify your categories on the web @
http://contacts.live.com and
signing in with your Messenger Live ID.
