Putting XP on a new partition

I just bought a new gateway computer. It has vista home premium on it. Vista
keeps freezing up for long periods. Is there a way to put XP on a new
partition? I tried to remove vista with the XP disk but it won't let me.

software and anti-virus on here. You will get helpful answers.

If , instead, you wish to install XP over Vista, change your boot menu in
bios to start with your CD Drive, insert your XP CD in the Drive, and reboot.

During the setup you can delete the partion that Vista is on, formatt your
drive, then install XP

2.4gh quadcore Q6600
nvidia 8500gt 256mb
vista home premium
McAffee security
It freezes with mostly games, especialy online game. But it has also done it
while watching movies. When i tried to install xp it said a error accured and
windos was shut down. Is there a way to just install xp to the partition I
made?

If the partition you made is a primary partition, I would make it active.
You should delete and recreate the partition and format it and make it
active when you select where to install XP or using diskpart in Recovery
Console since you don't say how you created the new partition. NTFS is
different between Vista and XP. If you want to continue to use Vista, you
can change the active partition back to the Vista partition and using
EasyBCD or VistaBootPro, you can add the XP to the Vista boot process. If
you have a BIOS where it is easy to select the boot drive at boot time, you
may just select which system to boot to there.
You also don't say where you got XP, so you may have license or activation
problems.

With dual booting you install the older system first, in this case XP.

How much RAM do you have? Vista requires 1 Gig, and with you playing games
I would say that you need a minimum of 2 Gigs of Ram.

Also, depending on the games, 256 MBs Graphics might not be enough.

And thirdly, I think a few posters have reported problems with your
anti-virus in vista.

What did Gateway support have to say when you contacted them for
warranty support on this new computer? Until they fix the defective
hardware, any OS is likely to freeze up.

You'd have to use a 3rd party partition and boot manager, unless you're
willing to void your (so far unused) warranty and service agreements by
removing Vista completely.
