Due to some problems I had a few days ago with installing XP SP1, I would
like to make sure all my patches are installed and up to date. I saw
Qfecheck.exe mentioned on these boards and would like to use it, but is it
available for SP1? When I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...A-BFAB8CFCCC03,
it only mentioned XP Home and XP Professional. Does it mean it works for all
versions, are just the original?

Also, how do you run Qfecheck.exe once you have it installed?

Thanks

It works for all versions.

You run it in a command prompt. More here:

Alternatively, take a look at the Microsoft Baseline Security
Analyzer (MBSA):

It has it own newsgroup as well:

But how do you do that? I've never ran anything in a command prompt.

Start > Run and type CMD in the box and hit Enter. This will open a DOS box
and you'll see a blinking cursor. Type qfecheck at the cursor and hit enter.
You will then see the results.

You will have to download the software following the links given in the
previous answer.

Hi

You can open a command prompt like this:

Start/Run --> cmd.exe

Then type the following command inside the command prompt and
press enter:

qfecheck /?
