"QTimes"?
I believe you mean QuickTime (Media Player).
QuickTime is a media (movie) player - it plays *.mov (video) and MP3's
(music) files. ITunes is a utility to play/download/purchase music and
videos; it also converts CD tracks to MP3 files and you can load these onto
an MP3 player such as the Apple iPod.
If you don't use these applications, you can uninstall them. Go to Control
Panel > Programs and Features (classic view). Select the program to
uninstall from the list and click the uninstall button at the top of the
screen. Once the list loads find and select the iTunes and QuickTime apps
and uninstall them there.
Additionally there is a program there that triggers the reminder to download
these updates for ITunes and QuickTime - you can also uninstall it so you
won't get the constant reminders.

To the second part of your question:
The above may not be the only cause of your system performance issues. You
may want to carry out some system maintenance such as:
- deleting temporary internet files (e.g. delete these files from your
browser - use the Options in your particular browser)
- Running the Disk Clean Up utility (use the Windows clean up tool or
www.ccleaner.com has an excellent utility for this)
- Defragmenting the hard drive (although Vista largely takes care of that
automatically). Use the Windows Defragmenter, or there are plenty of free
ones available.
- Virus, adware, malware, spyware scans etc (e.g. Live OneCare, AVG
Antivirus, Spyware Search & Destroy, Windows Defender etc)
----- One utility you could try is at
www.ccleaner.com for an excellent
utility for getting rid of "junk" and other files like temporary internet
files etc.
I would strongly files if you advise you tread lightly with CCleaner; don't
remove files if you are not sure whether they should be deleted or not (even
if CCleaner says it's OK to). It will list the files thinks can be removed
and gives you an estimate of the disk space that will be freed up by
deleting such files, so that may be helpful for you.

Can you please post back with the specs of your hardware, and the edition
you're running (e.g. Home Basic, Business, Home Premium, Ultimate etc) as
this may also contribute to the slow-running of Vista if your computer
system is below or borderline on the minimum specs for running it.
