The qttask.exe updates keeps updating my computer and changes my whole
desktop screen. The display mode changes from high color to 256 color and
icon sized is changed because of this display mode. What can I do to stop
this from occuring? Is this qttask.exe important to quicktime?

No it is NOT. It is definitely a nuisance. All it does is to load
QuickTime into memory to supposedly make it open quicker.
You can disable this 'feature' by removing it from the Startup axis.
Assuming this is XP, go to Start > Run > type in

msconfig
Click OK or press Enter
Click the Startup tab
Locate qttask and UNcheck the box next to it
Click Apply, Close, and reboot the system
When the system restarts put a check in the box and click OK.
This will stop the System Configuration Utility from opening on each reboot.

Hi moloaa,

Use Windows Explorer -- NOT Internet explorer -- and navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

See if the qttask.exe is in that folder. If it is, delete it.

It also might be found in C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name}\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup, so check both folders.

After clicking the Startup tab, under Startup Item, qttask should be listed.
Is/are there *any* named QuickTime or iTunes ?
