I was looking at parts on Newegg.com and came by some processors. I sa
a core2 quad 2.66Ghz cheaper then a Core 2 duo at 3.0GHz. Can you tel
me what CHz. stands for and which processors would be the best...I wa
going to buy one but i thought that the core 2 quad was better...But ho
are they cheap:sarc:??

I would guess that the 3.0 Ghz one will be faster. The quad2,
will will run cooler - and is of lower voltage. Thus more
energy efficient.

The Ghz is the speed of each of the cores. So you are choosing between Quad
with 4 2.66 cores and a Duo with 2 3.0 cores.
I would pick the Duo since you probably have few if any applications that
are split threads and can therefore run concurrently on more then one core.
Therefore you applications will run faster on the Duo and your system will
cost less. If you do have a video editing or file conversion program or a
data base management then can run on 4 cores concurrently then you would
want the Quad.

I have both, quad and duo core. My observation is that there are fe
programs that make use of the quad capability. A faster duo core woul
be my preference. And "GHz - Giga Hertz" is the cycle time of th
processor. 'Hertz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
