question about backup

I'm running Vista Ultimate X64 SP2. My external hard drive enclosure died and I installed the hard drive inside my computer. I deleted my backup because I wanted to make another full backup. Backup and restore center was still telling me that the backup I deleted was still available on the drive the previous backup was no longer on. I did a backup that fully completed but what I'm not sure of is if it did a full backup or just an incremental backup, even though I deleted the previous backup that contains a full and incremental backup. my c drive is showing as 354 gb's used and 111 gb's free yet the backup folder is exactly 277 gb's. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
