Question about clb.dll error

I was trying to access regedit and I got an error message that there is
something wrong with clb.dll. Most of the 'fixes' say that I need to go
back to a restore point before I installed 'the' program that caused the
problem. Well, since I have no idea when this started, I'm not going to
try to go back to a restore point. I did read that you can copy the dll
file from another computer and replace the one that's not working.

Is the clb.dll from XP going to work in Vista? I was thinking of
copying the file from my work pc (XP Pro) to my Vista (Home Premium)
machine. Since everything else on my computer works fine, I'm not in a
rush to try this. I was wanting to access regedit to test a theory
about why my Vista machine randomly drops the internet when connected to
our Linksys wireless router.

Thanks

You probably can't - single files in XP are mostly split over two files in
Vista (clb.dll and clb.dll.mui). If you rightclick a file - Properties -
Details you can view the version number.

Try typing in a command prompt to check and replace files.
sfc /scannow

Use this tutorial to extract a file from your Vista install DVD:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/26...ation-dvd.html

I would recommend slipstreaming your install DVD to SP2 before
extraction so you are not putting a horrendously old dll into your SP2
Windows directory. See here:
