Ask Gateway. Have they provided WinXP-specific device drivers for the
laptop's components?

A salesman that actually knows something? Wow! He's correct, of
course. Vista drivers won't work in WinXP.

Because there may not be WinXP-specific device drivers available for a
laptop that was specifically designed for Vista.

Then you should not be attempting such a course of action, yourself.
Hire an experienced professional.

That's doing it the hard way, but it's your time. There are a great
many 3rd party prtitioning tools available, and the additional trialware
is almost easily removed via the Control Panel.

Then how can you possibly not understand the purpose of device drivers
and the critical importance of having the correct ones?
