Afterloosing my CDRWDVD device ???? ( fault manipulation with NERO or
something else like program, I tryed to find a driver for Philips CDRW1610 in
Catalog (WU)
after updatetig FIRMWARE for this device on Philips Support.
Why can't I find the big manufacturer and partner of MS Philips in WU?
Firsts Question.
Any way.
What must I do to get back function my device.
When device failed it was installed on PC shuttle mainboard Pentium 2 Gb.
alone.
Now its on PC PEACOCK with 300MH BIOS AWARD V.4.51 wich recognise the device
as CDRWDVD1610.
Device manager also recognise it as like.
Is the device empty ( kaputt in german!!!) or what I do wrong.
Many thanks for help.
Henry

Hi hewag,

You probably won't find drivers for that device from Windows Update as
real-mode drivers are necessary only if needing to use the optical drive in
DOS. The Windows operating systems (Windows 95 and up) use protected mode
drivers that don't require updates.

I'm not sure exactly what is happening with your drive to make it
non-functional. The drive is displayed in BIOS and in Device Manager, as you
stated, but you didn't state whether it is displayed in My Computer. If it IS
displayed in My Computer and is simply not reading any disks that are placed
in it, then there's a good chance that the drive has gone south (or kaputt,
if you'd rather <g>). If it is NOT displayed in My Computer, check the Device
Status in Device Manager (expand DVD/CD-ROM drives and double-click on the
entry for CDRWDVD1610. Are there error messages in the Device Status field?
If so, perhaps the information in either of these MSKB article will be
helpful:

"CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=314060

For WIN2K
"Cannot Access CD-ROM and "Code 31" Error Message in Device Manager After
You Remove Adaptec Easy CD Creator from Your Computer"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/

(please note that although the article references Easy CD Creator, there are
other third-party software packages that will cause the same "problem" to
occur).

If the above doesn't rectify the problem, might I suggest that you post your
question to the microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware or the
microsoft.public.win2000.hardware newsgroup.

Regards,
