Question re: M/S 10-10 Updates

I'm seeing a number of problems posted here that people are experiencing
after accepting the M/S Updates of Oct. 10. My question: "is it wise to wait
a few days for Microsoft to modify or correct the updates; or should I
install them and deal with the potential problems"? Please excuse me if this
is a "dumb" question, but I'd really rather not create a bunch of problems
for myself to fix if it's not really necessary.

You are on a public newsgroup where people post about problems - not success
stories.

Don't base your choice on one side of the coin. While it is true that if
you sit in a hospital emergency room, you are more likely to see more
automobile accident victims in one day that you have in a year - you
shouldn't choose to *not drive* because of it.

Having said that - I usually side with 'caution' when it comes to MS
patches. If you have a secure system, good firewall and you don't do stupid
things on the Internet - you could probably have gotten away without ever
getting a single patch... However - since I know I will "slip up" sometime
more than likely - I get the patches but just wait a week or more after they
are released to do so. This gives me time to review the newsgroups for
problems/solutions... Read up on the various news sites, technical sites and
listen to other people/system administrators about their experiences before
I install it on my system(s) as well as those of my customers...

Thanks for the reply Shenan. Yes, I do run a both software and hardware
firewalls, AV software and Spyware software. I usually take updates a day or
two after they're released. But this time it seems a fair number of people
are having some serious problems. So I'm inclined to hold off for a while. I
was interested in seeing if anyone had more info. on what's going on.

Milt,

No definitive info on "what and why issues" has been forthcoming.
Strongly suggest you install this update as there is active exploitation
of it's vulnerability circulating on the net :
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-057
Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Execution (923191)

Thanks for the comment Mow. As it turns out, the posting of problems seems to
have subsided so I went ahead and took the updates today. I cleared all
caches first and defragged. I also shut down my AV protection while
installing. Everything went fine; no problems.
