Question about Updates

When I go to Windows Update it shows my system is current. However, last
night I encountered a problem . My virus protection said I had Bloodhound
Trojan. I deleted my temporary internet files to correct this. It seems I
need OE 837009 update. How do I find if I have this or not? Windows update
is suppose to tell me if I need it. Since it came out in 2004 I assumed I
was already covered for this threat because I keep all the updates current.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me as I am "just stumped"
Thanks,
Marsha

Marsha,

From : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS04-013.mspx
Under : Security Update Information

" Confirm that Q837009 appears in the Update Versions field in the About
Internet Explorer dialog box. "

Translation : Open Internet Explorer, click About. Q837009 should be
listed . If XP SP2 is installed then the update is NOT needed and will
not be listed.

Which antivirus software detected the Bloodhound Trojan and what is the
specific name it gave it ? Which version of Windows are you running ?

Internet Explorer Version: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Norton Anti virus 2005 (all updates current)
Bloodhound.Exploit.6
Windows XP SP2 (all updates current)

I should be protected. I really don't understand why it happened. I had
recently run PC Pitstop & was reading one of the newsgroups when it popped
up.
Thanks for your help. I appreciated it.

Marsha,

The virus was detected in Temporary Internet Files, correct ? The system
was not actually infected, correct ?
Have a look here for a possible explanation :

I just found that doing a search on Google today, duh...... Thanks for your
help. I appreciate everyone in the newsgroups. The way all of you guys &
gals spend time helping all of us folks sort things out is wonderful!
Without you nice folks I would be so very lost when I have problems.
