I'm a recent Vista user, I bought a Dell 'super cheap' ($379 for vostro 200,
originally supplied with XP home.) I upgraded it to Vista because this would
be my first machine big enough to run Vista (Business) After I beat the
'long wire to router' issue making the Inet connect run like a dog, I am
super happy with the upgrade. (set ethernet properties, speed tab to
'half-duplex)
IMO, no one in their right mind would stay with XP. Great OS, dead as
yesterdays news. You just have to get used to the fact that no one yet KNOWS
what impact Vista is going to have on YOUR peripherals, (if the OEM hasn't
put their 'guarantee' on it) Disk drives on USB, routers on a long wire, you
name it, the 'innovative user has to get use to the fact. They are out there
on the 'cutting edge', and they are going to bleed till they 'wise up'
Certainly this was true for me. I bought a 'Windows Vista 'Compatible'
router (Dlink DIV-655) trying to speed up the connection, and (duh) I found
out it was a simple device speed setting.
I'm not trying to say Vista has no bugs (Service Packs are the name of the
game), I'm saying that too often someone wants to play "Ralph Nadar",
climbing to success on the back of some tech glitch.
