Question for the Vista bashers.

And when I say Vista bashers, I mean those who say it's a piece of crap,
it's gonna die because Win 7 is coming out, it can't beat Linux, etc. I'm
not referring to those who have legitimate Vista issues and are trying to
fix them and/or are wondering if maybe the bashers have a point.

Someone I know is looking for a new computer. He went to the Dell site. Dell
is selling two or three Linux machines. It's also selling machines for
people who want to stick with XP. But this person tells me the configuration
of the XP computers is limited compared to what you can get with Vista. The
choices of extras are limited with Dell's XP boxes.

My question: If Vista is such a terrible failure, why is that the case?
Wouldn't Dell be trying to appease XP customers by giving them all sorts of
options, if there are supposed to be so many people still wanting XP out
there? Same thing with Linux. If the demand for Linux is so great, why isn't
Dell catering to them instead of limiting their choices?

If demand for XP and Linux is so great, why doesn't Dell hype it from the
home page? Go to dell.com and you have to drill down a layer or more to find
the Linux and XP machines. (That's Dell USA; might be different in other
countries.)

Dell wants to make money, right? If there's such a demand for XP and Linux,
why isn't Dell offering potential customers more options?

Dell wants no part of supporting Linux.
If you go to the Dell "ubuntu support" page...its the "ubuntu support page".
It is outside of Dell...Like linux is outside normal computer usage.
Ubuntu is for u-tubers with nothing better to do.

you don't understand the politics behind all this MS pushing do you?

MS normally would not even ALLOW companies to sell XP at all!

There was always tremendous pressure from MS to stop the prior version once
the new one is out.
And this pressure can take many forms.

But in this case MS had to step back for a little.. (NOTE IM SAYING A LITTLE
THEY ARE NOT OFF GUARD),
because Vista was such CRAP that people absolutely hated it and insisted on
XP.

In fact this is a personal experience from a friend Dell was NOT selling XP
when Vista first came out!

They stopped it.. my friend ended up BUYING AN EXTRA RETAIL VERSION OF XP
from Dell and insisting them to wipe Vista and install XP! That cost her an
extra $400 for all this.. when after a few months they started installing XP
again due to demand she felt disappointed.

Things are not so simple.. MS is under pressure from the people to keep XP
alive and they don't want to!
They want to push their crap technology (vista). So what is happening is
that they allow Dell to sell XP but
Im sure they are being pressured to not give all the options that a machine
would have with Vista, in order to persuade customers to get vista instead

I say Get Vista ultimate with downgrade rights to XP, install XP and DITCH
CRAPPY VISTA until windows 7 comes out.

If windows 7 is like vista.. well XP will live on far longer than MS ever
anticipated!

I'm a recent Vista user, I bought a Dell 'super cheap' ($379 for vostro 200,
originally supplied with XP home.) I upgraded it to Vista because this would
be my first machine big enough to run Vista (Business) After I beat the
'long wire to router' issue making the Inet connect run like a dog, I am
super happy with the upgrade. (set ethernet properties, speed tab to
'half-duplex)

IMO, no one in their right mind would stay with XP. Great OS, dead as
yesterdays news. You just have to get used to the fact that no one yet KNOWS
what impact Vista is going to have on YOUR peripherals, (if the OEM hasn't
put their 'guarantee' on it) Disk drives on USB, routers on a long wire, you
name it, the 'innovative user has to get use to the fact. They are out there
on the 'cutting edge', and they are going to bleed till they 'wise up'
Certainly this was true for me. I bought a 'Windows Vista 'Compatible'
router (Dlink DIV-655) trying to speed up the connection, and (duh) I found
out it was a simple device speed setting.
I'm not trying to say Vista has no bugs (Service Packs are the name of the
game), I'm saying that too often someone wants to play "Ralph Nadar",
climbing to success on the back of some tech glitch.

You don't know what to do with Vista, that's why you think its crap. You
can't figure it out. Go back to DOS 6.2 and you should be just fine. Just
FYI

You "friend" is a homeless man who happened to see you in the local YMCA
looking over the shoulder of someone using a computer. Just FYI

I have Vista Ultimate. Should I downgrade even though it's working fine for
me?

Yep, that was the arrangement. Sure beats the OEM "support" one gets with a
Dell Windoze computer. Some idiot in India, with broken English whose
answer to everything is just reinstall the o/s.

Yep, that was the arrangement with Canonical. Best place to get Ubuntu
support.

Nope, Ubuntu is for computer users that are far more advanced than you are -
which includes probably 75% of computer users.

Cheers.

what to you do with your computer and its still working with Vista? lol

MIRACLE MAN!

The absolute truth is that most people have problems with vista when they
try to do one of the following

1) Use a program they need
2) Install a hardware they already have
3) Install Vista on a computer that supposed to be able to run vista

If the power is in the USERS and CONSUMERS hands.. dont even kid yourself
for a minute.

Vista is going DOWN and all the news from all around the world is reflecting
this.... even MS is working like crazy to get win7 out...

Vista went from WOW, to WTF!
