alright, last month when i updated my windows xp pro, manually, everything
worked great. now when i came back onto my computer i received an automatic
update notification like i usually do when i have new updates to download. so
i clicked on the notification icon and checked to see what needed to be
updated. there was 12 updates listed for me to download. so i went over to
microsoft.com and clicked on the Microsoft Updates link and waited for the
page to load. after it finished loading i clicked on the express button and
then i waited for it to finish scanning. now usually when i scan for updates
it only takes about 30 seconds until it lets me know what needs to be
updated. but this time it took about 2-3 minutes until it finished scanning.
after it finished scanning i didnt see any new availble updates to download
like i usually do after i finish scanning. then i noticed the details link so
i clicked it and then my updates popped up, or i should say "update" popped
up. now like i said before in the automatic updates notification it listed 12
updates for windows xp pro, but after it got finished scannin on
microsoft.com it said i only had one and the name of that one availible
update was "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification". now like i said, last
month when i manually updated, everything worked fine and there was no slow
scanning, and it showed all my update just like the automatic updates did.
but this month it didnt. so my questions are:

Question 1: Is there a problem with the microsoft updates page that nobodies
aware about?
Question 2: If there isnt a problem with the microsoft updates page then why
is it only showing me one availible update to download (Windows Genuine
Advantage Notification) instead of 12 updates?
Question 3: If there isnt a problem with the microsoft updates page then why
is it taking so long to scan the computer and bring up the updates?
Question 4: If there isnt a problem with the microsoft updates page then
could the reason why its only showing me one availible update be because i
need to install the "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification" update first?

well that seems to be all the questions i have on this situation at this
time. someone please reply with the answers to my questions.

Possibly (4) applies. But this is an optional update - it will present an
EULA when you install it, and you can decline at that point. Then try
Windows Update again for the remaining pending updates.
