HI everyone

If I deploy SUS will that prevent the Mandatory Windows XP SP2 install that
Microsoft is pushing?

Seeing that it's MANDATORY I have my doubts:

UPDATE: Time is running out! Please note that the mechanism to temporarily
disable delivery of Windows XP SP2 is only available for a period of 240
days (8 months) from August 16, 2004. At the end of this period (after April
12, 2005), Windows XP SP2 will be delivered to all Windows XP and Windows XP
Service Pack 1 systems.

There is no mandatory process - if you don't want SP2 you don't have to
either download it or install it!

Where is this "mandatory" suggestion coming from?
If you don't want it, don't install it.

Yeah - you'll have to turn off Automatic Updates.
Yeah - if you have a SUS server, you don't approve the update for yor
clients.
Yeah - if you want updates aithout those two, you will have to do it
manually.

However, you would think that after 6+ months (not counting the time before
that where the Beta Release of the Service Pack was out there for all to
confirm their applications and hardware was ready for the change) of
post-poning it, there should be little excuse now NOT to get SP2.

Eventually Microsoft will force the update and you wont be able to do
various stuff or get certain updates if you don't install it.

Yes - for Windows XP Home/Professional, that date is slated at September 17,
2006.
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifesupsps

Until then, Microsoft supports those who do not wish to update (for whatever
reason) from Windows XP SP1.
But they don't have to supply "automated tools".

Looks to me like this coming up January:

Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 1 22-Oct-2002 18-Jan-2006

If you out to get someone go get someone else... I'm just trying to help
here. 8-)

Not "out to get" anyone.

Just pointing out the facts so that people quit going on about "mandatory
SP2" and "no support for non-SP2 systems" when it is not true.

It is only April 2005, you know.. heh
January 2006 is 8+ months away. =)

And as for the people who really are having the most "fear" put in them
(consumers/system admins who cannot/will not update to SP2) - September 2006
is 16+ months away!

Windows XP Embedded is a whole different kettle of fish to Win XP Home/Pro -
it is for embedded computers limited in what they can do - running
specialised services/applications only.
