Questions about remote assistance

My dad frequently calls me and asks me questions about his PC. He's basically
a beginner. I want to connect to his PC & help him out.

It's a bit complicated. He has XP Media Center Edition & I have Vista Home
Premium. I want a simple solution for both of us.

I think that it would be easier for both me and my dad to send an e-mail
rather than use Messenger.

I got the following from the help menu on Vista:
" You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to remote computers
running Windows XP."

However, I noticed that Vista has Remote Assistance as well as Remote Desktop.

So, mainly I want to know how to set up Remote Assistance on his PC (with
XP) and Remote Assistance on my PC (with Vista).

So, what are the step-by-step instructions for setting up Remote Assistance
on his PC and on my PC?

Thank you.
David

Someone else can help you with Remote Assistance. I'm going to suggest a
much better way - TeamViewer. It's free for personal use. You - the
supporter - install the full version. Your dad doesn't have to install
anything. He just has to download the client and double-click it to run.
This works extremely well for the person being supported.

TeamViewer. It's free for personal use.
Doesn't even need anything to be installed on the remote machine.

If you don't have any luck with Vista's remote connection then have a look at Team Viewer:
http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx

It's free for personal use.
You download and install the full version - marked on the website as ' Start Full Version -It's Free! '
Your Dad downloads the client exe - marked on the website as ' Join a Session '.
The client exe does not install any files, it's just run from the Desktop.
