Quick Launch problem

When I first got Vista about six months ago the quick launch next to the
start icon show open pages fanned out like a deck of cards. The space next
to start now just shows different icon but will not fan out.

Question is can anyone tell be if this function can be turned back on or
what could I have done to make it stop working? I have receved good help
from this community and I really appreciate the information.
