heh, this is more of a personal pet peeve, but when i shutdown vista, i
closes everything, including explorer(no start bar). it'll jump to th
shutdown screen(w/ the login background), saying "please wait", but the
i jumps back to the desktop, with just the wallpaper! THEN, it makes th
smooth blacking out transition to "shutting down", and shuts down.
know it's not that big of a deal, but it drives me crazy every time
see it! does anybody know a fix for this?

i've installed all the updates, and i'm not a windows novice.. but an
suggestion could help

Have you thought of walking away from the computer and not looking?

You're a moron. From "Windows Help and How To":
http://tinyurl.com/63tony

Startup Repair is a Windows Vista recovery tool that can fix certain
problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent
Windows from STARTING CORRECTLY. When you run Startup Repair, it
scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so your
computer CAN START CORRECTLY.

well its no big deal, maybe your computer just needs a couple of
maintenance, i think its just hanging up a bit... try defragmenting it
or cleaning the registry... or just look away when you're shutting down
ur pc....^^

Try starting Vista in safe mode (Google, "start vista in safe mode" )

Does it still happen?

If not then you know a driver, program or service is causing it.

If it still happens then you know it's something to do with the way
Windows is configured, or maybe more hardware.

Let me know

Marc

do you have Nvidia drivers? It's a well known issue. Hope Nvidia will fix it
soon.

It all happens in like 1 second.
It's hardly an issue.

During that 1 second, stand up from your chair instead of staring at the
monitor.

thanks for all of your replies, but they haven't seemed to alleviate the
issue :/.

startup repair did find a problem, but didn't fix it

in safe mode it doesn't do that

and as for the nvidia drivers, i don't know if that's the issue,
because i uninstalled the laptopvideo2go drivers and reinstalled the
drivers that my notebook came with, which didn't solve the problem(and
the issue didn't appear when my laptop first came out of the box)

sorry though, i'm not exact sure when it happened exactly(after driver
update, windows update, etc.)

I think you'll have to "just look away when you're shutting down
ur pc....^^ " as one person posted.
