Quote without >

Hello,
I'm a new user of Windows Live Mail ...
When answering to newsgroup messages, WLM doesn't add the symbol > at
the beginning of each quoted line and my answers are all unreadable for
the users !
Any idea of the fixing i have to apply, please ?

Find another newsreader. Microsoft did away with the quote marks in V:

Hi, Jeffbie.

If you read a few of the messages in this newsgroup (especially the replies
from ...winston), you will see that this is probably the most-discussed
issue with WLM 2011 (aka WLM 15 or Wave 4 or Build 15.4.3538.0513). Earlier
builds of WLM had other problems, but not this one.

In short, Microsoft noted this problem just before they released this latest
build, but they decided that it was easier to remove the ">" than to fix the
problem. That is the most glaring of several short-sighted decisions they
made for this build, which is still the latest available.

You and I can't fix the program so we have to rely on workarounds.
Personally, I just quote parts of the prior message and manually add the ">
". I've found that if I quote a multiple-line paragraph and remove its line
breaks, then a single "> " before the first line will cause all the lines in
the quoted paragraph to have the "> " as well.

Many users have refused to use WLM 2011 because of this, but I've chosen to
make the manual adjustments and keep using it. Also, some users of other
newsreaders say they will kill-file anyone who uses WLM 2011. :>(

Feature removed in the last private and public beta and not returned to the RTM release (nor has it been restored in subsequent QFE
releases, currently QFE2).

Why was it removed ? The primary reasons.
1. Microsoft moving away from support for nttp (plain text)
2. Microsoft's largest (approaching 0.4 billion users) free email client to support is Hotmail (not OE, Windows Mail, WLM) -
Hotmail (for mail replies) provides the prepend '>' option for plain text responses.
3. Removing the '>' in WLM allows Windows Live Support to not address the issue, effectively requiring one single response from all
support personnel. - Design Intent, Won't Fix.

If you need the '>' feature and wish to use WLM
- revert to 2009 on Vista or Win7 (but note it has its own weaknesses and is no
longer being updated - May 2010 was the last (ever) released build - QFE3.
- 2009 can only be installed if all 2011 programs are removed (no mix and match, no presence of prior version) - backup accounts,
contacts and messages before removing 2011. (2011 is smart enough to migrate 2009 data, 2009 does not migrate 2011 data).

Thanks to you and all others for answers.
I used OE years ago with the help of OE-Quotefix but well ... that was
a poor solution.
That's why i finally found that newsreader called MesNews i'm now been
using for years, also existing in many different languages.
But for some reason, i need to use WLM for answering to a few groups.

As i understand the answers, i have no real solution with WLM except in
adding the >'s one by one ; i've looked at the other solutions but they
seem to me being what we call in France (where i'm living) "a gasplant"
because way too heavy for a so small use !

So, i think i'll keep my very dear MesNews for the 99% of my answers
and considering the 1% i need WLM for, i'll do it by hand, thanks to
Microsoft.

What other newsreaders has "Show replies to my messages [CTRL-H]"? This
is the most basic feature of a newsreader. And how come nobody but
Microsoft was smart enough to include it?

but they are *all* crap!
