I seem to have come across a problem, with windows update. I got a update
Feb 2/05.. I got home from work, and clicked install update. Next it says
reboot to complete update. So that I do, then right after it boots up, it
pops up the Updates To Install (again), so I do it again, reboot. (I do this
a fe wmore times, and start to get annoyed) I checked the updates on my
system, and all 5 times it was a Radeon 9800 Pro update. (all were
successful) My question is, am I to expect a 6th one to happen right after I
type this? And also, now I can't get on to EverQuest II because of the update.
(was disabling the taskbar option of the Radeon Pro, would that cause the
prob?)

Terry;
In the future get drivers directly from the manufacturers web site and not
from Microsoft.

If the driver comes up as a Critical Update, there is normally a good reason
and you should consider
Getting the driver at that time from the manufacturer.
If the driver is not critical and everything is working fine, do not install
the newer driver

Right click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Hardware tab
Click Windows Update button
Make appropriate selections.

Interesting...I'm having a similar problem that just started this week. My
Automatic update shows that have only one update to be installed (KB890830).
When I reboot my system, it automatically starts installing an update and
when it reboots, a newer video driver for my Radeon 9800 Saphire card has
been installed that does not work as well as the original driver did. I then
have to rollback the driver to get the original back and reboot again. The
rollback works fine but when I reboot again, the same process happens. When I
check my automatic updates, I still see the original update still waiting to
be installed and that's all. How do I prevent a driver from installing on
reboot when it doesn't even show up in the Automatic updates list?

Delete the file referenced in step 5 on this link should do it:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spack.htm

If the driver is coming as a Critical Update, you should get the latest
driver from the manufacturer.
