RAW image icons reverting to basic

When opening a folder containing images and selecting large icons or any
icons for that matter, the picture opens as an icons, then immediately
closes and the icon shows as a Photoshop Elements icon. This is new
behavior. Has anyone else seen this?

Downloading and installing the latest Vista codec from Nikon fixed this.
