RC1 crashes

I have installed RC1. This runs extremely slow and then crashes or just
freezes up. As far as I can accertain, there are corrupted system files.
How can I reload these files? Trying to upgrade from RC1 (i.e. reinstall)
stops and hangs. An attempt at a clean install also stops and hangs. Xp and
XP 64 run sweet as, so its not a hardware problem. I cannot get into RC1 to
delete programs to see if any are the cause.
