RDBSS.SYS missing

Two weeks ago, I enabled automatic update on about 40 PC's with XP2 SP2
installed. Since that time at least 5 users have not been able to log into
the network. Turns out that rdbss.sys had been deleted from
c:\windows\system32\drivers. Copying the module from c:\windows\software
distribution\...\sp2gdr back into c:\windows\system32\drivers and rebooting
fixed the problem.

Does anyone have an idea of what's happening. I hope I don't have to walk
around to all 40 PC's to handle this.

KB885250 was the SMB security patch. It updated the rdbss.sys and a couple of
other files. Most likely if you check the KB885250.log file in the Windows
root directory you will see some errors.

I think this patch caused some issues for my work environment as well. My
own admin workstation wouldn't boot up due to system driver-level issues that
led to an endless cycle of BSOD's. :-(

Thanks for pointing me to the logs. I tracked the rdbss.sys problem down to
KB885835. In a log where their was no problem, this line appears.

3.391: Copied file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\rdbss.sys

On a PC where the file disappeared, no similar line appears in the log.
Why? I have not idea.
