I don’t think anyone from MS has picked this up as yet? As I haven’t yet
seen any [MSFT] respond to Ian’s solution you have tried below. Ian's
solution worked for me! And for others I have noticed that have posted here.
I did have your problem that you are experiencing on another computer though
and tried a combination of again deleting the
"c:\windows\softwaredistribution" folder and turning of/on the Automatic
Update service restarting the computer. This seemed to have fixed the problem
and I could scan successfully.
