It may "look like" there is no problem.. But having two firewalls CAN cause
conflicts.. It's like a double-negative:

I'm NOT going to run NO firewall --> means I am going to run a firewall.
One negative cancels the other out.

yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.

Shenan,

I understand the theory of firewall conflicts, but I must say that I've not
had any problems what-so-ever with 2 firewalls running at the same time and
have been doing it that way for over a year. In addition to XP's SP2
firewall, I have PC-Cillin's '02 firewall and NIS's '03 firewall running on
a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. On a custom desktop, I have the XP SP2 firewall
and NIS's '02 firewall. I connect to the internet through a MS Base Station
which has a firewall also.
So in effect, that's 4 firewalls on the laptop and 3 on the desktop. Maybe
I've just been lucky with this setup, but the two systems run just as
they're suppose to.

With regard to software firewalls - yes. With a hardware firewall appliance
and a software firewall on the client, no problem, really.

Definitely - Sorry I should have been clearer.

Running two firewalls on the same PC (software) could cause issues.

At work we have the perimeter firewall and manage the Windows Firewall on
the XP clients. This protects us from external and internal threats much
better - which is especially useful at an educational institution.
