Can you disable the second nic at the bios level (or is it that way
already?)

Other thoughts I had but dismissed before posting:
Did you disable IPV6 (I thought probably not, from the log)
If you've configured VPN before running the wizard, Google hits appear to
indicate that this may cause some unspecified problem. Reversing that work
may help.

I didn't post those thoughts because I didn't feel I had clear evidence from
the trace that they were relevant--but you asked for other ideas
