The 64-bit version of Vista is not supported by IBM/Lotus.
This version does not allow proper functionality because of
the legacy computer code within SmartSuite and Organizer.
Do NOT install SmartSuite or Organizer on the Vista 64-bit version.

Am I right to assume that if I move to 64bit Vista that I'll still be
able to run legacy applications like Lotus 1-2-3?

You'll need software for converting files from one type to another. Conversions Plus
allows batch conversions. Just drop a bunch of Lotus 1-2-3 files on the program, set the
options to convert to Excel and in few minutes your files are all converted.
Bingo, you now have Excel files.

Try the fully functional trial version for 30 days:

Thanks for the link Carey. But the document only really mentions
SmartSuite and Organizer. Which makes me wonder ... the only things I
have installed (in XPpro 32bit) are 1-2-3 and WordPro.

I don't suppose you could commeent on whether just those 2 (without
all the SmartSuite stuff and Organizer) might work in Vista64?

Or ... do you know off the top of your head if the current Excel wiill
import spreadsheets, without mangiing the formulas, from my 1997
1-2-3?

The short answer is, probably not. The key problem is not the 32-bit code -
it's the remaining 16-bit code. 64-bit Windows simply doesn't support 16-bit
applications at all. Full Stop.

Despite 'IBM's warnings
(http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docvie...=UTF-8&lang=en
that Lotus Organizer is not compatible with Vista 64 bit, I installe
Organizer 6.1 on a new Vista x64 machine and have been using it with n
apparent functional problems for a few weeks. Calendar, Addresses
Anniversaries, notes are OK. No errors, no corruption, no obviou
compatibility issues.

If you've got a license for this still-best PIM, I encourage you t
install it and try it out. Just be sure to back up your .OR6 files
first
